Art Committee

All great art is a visual form of prayer. – Wendy Beckett

The mission of the Art Committee is to promote and support art within the church and the greater community. Created in 2002, the committee was inspired by the desire to highlight and celebrate the spiritual nature of art in both our religious and daily lives.

Recent projects include:

  • “Stewards in Action,” a two year-long celebration of our ministries, which focused on Liturgy, Parish Life, Christian Formation and Outreach. Photographs were accompanied by heartfelt comments from parishioners. The project was underwritten by a grant from the Diocese as well as support from the St. Dunstan’s vestry.
  • “The Art of Worship,” an earlier photographic exhibit featured a compilation of black and white photographs taken by parishioner Tia Dennis. She beautifully captured the sacred worship space of St. Dunstan’s.
  • “Life of the Church,” a photo wall in the kitchen area, continues to showcase parishioners participating in the many programs and activities that fill the church’s calendar.

Other Art Committee exhibits include:

  • “Step Into Art,” featured the paintings of middle school students from Epiphany School in Boston.
  • “Cuba at a Crossroads-Portraits of a Recent Visit’” showcased the photography of parishioner Chris Wood who spent a week photographing Havana street scenes.
  • “Faces of Haiti” showcased images from Haiti taken by parishioners after the first mission trip in 2011, the goal being to share the team’s experiences with the rest of the parish community.
  • “Windows to the Divine,” included a presentation by well-known iconographer Susan Hagner as well as an exhibit of religious icons.
