On Saturday, September 9th, St. Dunstan’s will be reviving its popular Dover Days “food-raiser” for A Place to Turn. This has been a fun and meaningful event for St. Dunstan’s and the community, as it gives everyone an easy way to give back and help feed area residents who are facing tough times. It’s also a great way for St. Dunstan’s to share one of its important outreach missions with the community.
As you may recall, we do the shopping in advance and set up a mini-grocery store at our Dover Days Booth. Community members buy a bag of groceries, and we deliver it to APTT on their behalf. We’ve included some pictures from past years at the bottom of this email. Members of our youth groups can play an active role in this event and high school students can earn community service credit. It’s also a great multi-generational outreach opportunity that parents can share with their kids. There are several ways to help out: you can help us prepare for the event by doing some shopping, or you can sign up to take a shift at the booth
We need shoppers! On your next shopping trip please purchase groceries from this list (if you’d like to be reimbursed, please leave your receipt with your name on it in the outreach mailbox in the church office). We are not asking for items in cans or jars, and we would prefer to have multiples of the same thing. Also, we prefer more items in smaller sizes, versus one large package as we are aiming to provide about 600 individual grocery items to APTT. Often the items on the list will be on sale when multiples are purchased:
• Pancake Mix
• Mac & Cheese
• Dried beans
• Hamburger Helper or varieties
• Dried soup mix
• Boxes of Tea
• Fruit snacks
• Cookies or crackers (in boxes)
• Cake & brownie mix
• Granola Bars
• Lunch box snacks
• Boxes of tissues
We need Dover Days volunteers! On Saturday, September 9th, we need help with set up, working the booth, and closing up shop. If you would like to help with setup, we will meet at church at 8 am to load up the Motley trailer with the tent, 4 tables and chairs, then set up the “grocery store” at our booth. You can help out at the booth throughout the day by taking a two hour shift, anytime between 9-3:00 pm. We will also need help with closing up, beginning at 3:00 pm. Shortly after Dover Days, on a date to be determined, we will deliver all of the groceries to APTT and help them stack the shelves.
