Saint Dunstan’s is ready to announce its Christian Formation offerings for Fall 2017! We look forward to reconnecting with all of our friends as well as welcoming new ones!
The Christian Formation Steering team and Rev. Sean Leonard have planned the offerings outlined below. We are blessed with a strong foundation thanks to a wonderful group of volunteers. Our ministry is rooted in cooperation, teamwork, and community. Parents, teachers, and volunteers continually strive to form our children and youth in the ministries of faith and God, and they form us in return.
Let’s have another great year of Christian Formation at Saint Dunstan’s!
The Christian Formation Steering Team
Audrey Ensor – Vestry Advocate
Rev. Sean Leonard
This year, the Christian Formation Steering Team has decided to host a one room Church School. We have faithfully discerned in many meetings and conversations to come to the conclusion that this is the best route to take for this year.
Church School begins September 17th and will continue through May 20th. Classes will be offered most Sundays during the program year from 9:00 – 9:50 am. The schedule is attached below and will be available on the church website.
We will offer one classroom for ages 4 years – 6th grade. The curriculum will be a mixture of Godly Play lessons as well as a new program called Deep Blue. We are looking forward to starting the Deep Blue program this year. Deep Blue is a video based lesson with discussion and activities. Audrey Ensor will lead all of the Deep Blue lessons. We have decided to include some Godly Play lessons scattered throughout the year instead of completely disregarding the beloved lessons that have been taught over the past years. Each Godly Play lesson includes the telling of Christian story, a discussion, and an activity. The Godly Play lessons we chose to include this year are ones that we see important in the development for children’s own individual knowledge of and relationship with God.
Donuts and Discourse
Donuts and Discourse started last fall as a way to engage our teenagers in grades seven and above on Sunday mornings. This year we are pleased to offer it again, however, it will only be on the first and third Sundays of the month at 9AM. This year it will be co-lead by Fr. Sean Leonard and Amelia Slawsby.
However, there is a slight twist this year, Donuts and Discourse will be an intergenerational class for anyone grade seven and above. We would love to parents and other adults join the discourse. This year we will be using Rob Bell’s Nooma series as a platform for our conversation. Rob has produced engaging ten-minute videos on all sorts of theological topics. And, of course there will be donuts.
